Reconsideration of “playing” in modern French literature and art
People often consider play as an activity separated from daily life and as a purely temporary fiction.
The purpose of this study is to reconsider the importance of play and playing in the field of literature and art in modern France where the traditional concepts of “daily life”, “fact” and “reality” have been destabilized by technical innovation and social convulsion.
Based on a study of the surrealism movement, which strategically used “play” in its development, this research will examine the role of “play” from a new perspective by taking the changes affecting modern society into consideration.
