Enhanced Utilization of Public Research Resources through the Development of Old Japanese Dictionaries Portal Site

While there exists an abundance of image and textual data about Japanese kanji dictionaries, essential for research in linguistics, script annotation, and textual resources, these data are scattered, necessitating the exertion of significant effort in each investigation when conducting interdisciplinary studies.  This study endeavors to construct a portal site that comprehensively searches and displays the content documented in Japanese kanji dictionaries from the Heian period to the modern era, utilizing selected multiple datasets of images and texts, database sites, and web APIs as data sources.  Challenges such as creating highly versatile metadata for dictionary entries and organizing variant character relationships by concurrently referencing phonetic information pose significant challenges.  Nonetheless, through this research, the capability to observe and compare multiple Japanese kanji dictionaries as research materials will be established, facilitating an integrated and multifaceted approach to Japanese linguistic historical studies.
