Modern Western music history
The history of Western music from the nineteenth to mid-twentieth century was a process of fracture into art music and entertainment music. German absolute music from Beethoven to Schoenberg aimed for a high degree of sonic abstraction based on autonomous aesthetics, while virtuoso music and opera provided branded upper-class entertainment to post-revolutionary modern civic society. I intend to consider the modern psychology of Europe by examining various aspects of this fracture.
